We can minimize our fossil fuel use and support makers near us by buying more from local makers (and a lot less from big stores). I want to keep highlighting amazing makers in the US, and I feel like my Etsy links can get caught in the more mainstream shuffle. So let's look at some of the best stuff together. 



It can be a lot harder to find feminine clothes made locally than masculine ones. This, like so much else, comes from a bunch of sexist expectations that feminine style changes much more quickly, so there is a greater demand for clothes that will last for dude-style. Sigh. Now that I am trying to have an ethical wardrobe that lasts, I have found some gems on Etsy that are made nearby but aren't so dang butch.

1. Vintage

Ok, it is sort of impossible to pick, but if you love vintage clothes, you can't do better than Etsy. Here are a few of the stores I like to browse (but really, you just have to get on and browse): DEARGOLDEN, TenderLane, SustainablyThrifted, and DamselflyGoods.

2. thiefandbandit 

This shop made one of my favorite dresses in my wardrobe. Their prints are fun and delicate at once without being too precious. I love their prints, but I also love that they have a really wide variety of cuts and options for their clothing.

3. BERIQISU 

These are the most beautiful, colorful, and electric clothes I have ever seen. I am not cool enough for anything this store sells, but I just think every piece they make is so modern and fun.

This shop offers beautiful minimalist clothes that are ethically made and could fit into any wardrobe. I think they look really chic without being snotty, and the colors are more interesting than just black and white.

5. The Bee and The Fox 

This shop make my favorite t's in a large field of t-shirts printed for women. I mean, they have shirts that say basically everything on Etsy, but this shop has the right balance of sass and sweetness, modernity and vintage feelings.
