Wedding Wednesday (On Thursday)- Things are getting Hairy
from www.merledress.com |
So this week's wedding drama was about finding a place to get our hair done for the wedding. It wouldn't be a problem, but since I have an army of bridesmaids, it has to be a place with more than 2 people, or people will still be getting their hair done as they walk down the aisle. To be totally honest, this may be the part of the wedding I care least about. I am just not all that into hair and makeup, and it's not somewhere I invest much time. On the other hand, I know I will be annoyed if I look back at my pictures and look like a fool (or a nearly nip slipped fairy princess like this particular lady), so I am trying to figure out what might actually be good. I am depending a whole lot on my friend Jenny, who is not only generally awesome and helpful and talented at looking pretty, but she also knows all about hair, so kudos to her.
So, the deal is that I know very little about my hair- I have the polka dot shoes and a slightly 50's/60's retro dress, so I am thinking maybe a 50's/60's retro hair? With a kind of gardeny twist? I mean, whatever goes with a classy nerd picnic theme. The trick is that I did buy a hair wreath for the reception and want a long veil for the church. So this is the closest I see to the wreath:

So perhaps the answer here is that I have too many things going on. I would like to avoid princess hair, because I think if you did an updo with some baby's breath it would definitely get into that territory. So my first thought was to do something in this sort of 60's half up kind of family:

Also, on a side note, isn't the racer back on this dress freaking amazing?

So in my head, I was going to do something in this arena, but Jenny said it wasn't the best idea, and with good reason (not the least of which is it is really hard to keep this kind of thing looking nice). Also, I have long hair, but it is pretty thin, so I am afraid the bottom would end up looking super scraggly. So the question has now re-emerged since we are actually tackling the hair question and here are a few of the other things I like:

So I have been trying to find all up hairstyles that don't look overly fraught. This might be a little too much in the other direction, but it is really cute.

This one might be my favorite, but I am not sure that has much retro going on. Plus, my hair is not curly, so I think it would just look like pretty typical wedding hair.

Another Taylor Swift one- who knew, but that girl has really cute hair! I like the giant side bun, but I am not sure how it would go with the hair wreath. It seems like it would just always look crooked.

I love her hair!!! Or I love the cutesy thing in it. That is probably closer to the truth. See? I am not good at this. I just like the hair with cutesy things in them. So, I am sure whatever gets picked will be fine, as long as someone else picks, because the only thing less interesting to me about the wedding is makeup, which really seems like a weird thing to try to pre-plan.
Countdown: 26 weeks!
