3 Things for Yesterday- RBG, Gort, and Eating Outside

1. Ruth Bader Ginsburg- Let's be honest, yesterday was a major bummer start to 4th of July week. I mean, the Supreme Court's decisions this time have been disappointing to an insane degree. Can we all say together- corporations aren't people. You incorporate your business so you are not personally liable when things happen. Now it feels like businesses get the best of both worlds the benefits of personhood and business status. Boo Hiss. Not to mention the HEAPS of misogyny it takes to think that removing birth control options for women is somehow consistent with Christian doctrine (WHAT!?!?!? Someone please direct me to the Bible story where Jesus says ANYTHING about IUD's), while medication for STD's, Viagara, and about a million other things remain uncontested and covered by insurance.

Still, the bright light in this is our girl RBG, who wrote a pointed response to the decision. Revisiting highlights:

"Religious organizations exist to foster the interests of persons subscribing to the same religious faith. Not so of for-profit corporations. Workers who sustain the operations of those corporations commonly are not drawn from one religious community."

"Would the exemption…extend to employers with religiously grounded objections to blood transfusions (Jehovah's Witnesses); antidepressants (Scientologists); medications derived from pigs, including anesthesia, intravenous fluids, and pills coated with gelatin (certain Muslims, Jews, and Hindus); and vaccinations[?]…Not much help there for the lower courts bound by today's decision."

"In a decision of startling breadth, the Court holds that commercial enterprises, including corporations, along with partnerships and sole proprietorships, can opt out of any law (saving only tax laws) they judge incompatible with their sincerely held religious beliefs"

Boo hiss, Supreme Court. You are a bunch of old male fools.

2. Gort- Specifically, yelling at Gort to just destroy people already. Trying to get more movies off my Epic Quest (I have 552 out of 772 left to go), and we have been watching some of the sci fi fare together, because The Boy will probably enjoy it more than I will. I am just pleased to watch anything that doesn't have Clint Eastwood in it.

3. Our first dinner outside! Hot dogs (and not very good ones... I picked something wrong) and corn on the cob. We are doing picnic, summer, 4th of July type food for the summer, to try to make up for missing the holiday at home. We made our mostly marches playlist too, so maybe we will play it when we eat outside tonight.
