If you are like me, than you already know what you are doing next weekend. I am counting down the days to the next season of Orange is the New Black, and I am pretty confident we will have a great time watching, so I want to do it up. Even if you don't have a big shindig (it will probably just be The Boy and I here), I came up with some ways to up your binge-ing. Feel free to add your own ideas!
Unless you want to make your viewing party look like a prison, this one could be tricky. I mean, do you make the place look beiger?
You could try toliet paper decorations, a la Tricia's party.
This blog ingeniously used the toilet paper to spell out the show's logo, but I think you could go all sorts of ways with this. You could just do a drape effect, like they did on the show. I assume if you have a strong enough ply, you can just use it as crepe paper. Or use the toliet paper to make a bar effect? No matter what, this has to be some of the cheapest decorating possible.
Somewhere Between had the brilliant idea to set up a Department of Corrections photo booth. I am obsessed enough with this idea to us it even it will only be the two of us, but if you are actually having this party, you have to do it. Do it for me.
I only found 3 blogs on this topic, and they oscillate between making actual prison food (nutloaf?) and theme food hippo hyndrangea picked foods that played on quotes from the show. I would not pick actual food from the show, unless you really like gravy with urine in it. I think you have to serve on metal trays like in jails-
This plate is from amazon, and as long as you avoid using knives, this set up seems pretty legit. I also think this might be a cool place to bring back the prison bars? If I can find black and white striped napkins.
My thought was either to make all orange food (cheddar broccoli soup, carrots, etc) or to make food and put "contraband" into it. My Grammy used to make money cake, which had change wrapped in tin foil inside it. I figure that might be really fun. Also, borderline toxic? Might do more research on that?
Hydrangea Hippo also had brilliant ideas for theme food (you can check it all out here), but I had one definite favorite:
Come on, that is pretty funny? Plus, I think the Black, white, grey, and orange color combo is pretty genius.
Ugh, all I can think of is that awful Julianne Hough Halloween costume. Just the dumbest thing ever. The nice thing is that a good amount of the costumes in the show are sweatshirts, mumus, and pajamas, which are hard to get wrong:
If you didn't want to dress up, you could go as the show's creator Jenji Kohan, who as far as I know never looks anything less than technicolored. She reminds me of Clementine with Cat Eye glasses. Going as her gives you the option to embrace that crazy hair color you have always wanted.
Lastly, you could go more subtle. Just wear some orange or paint your nails like prison bars.
Grace Boyle went all out and did her nails like the characters-
I think there is a ton of potential here, and I can't wait to see what people think of the new season and how they enjoy their binge-watching. I will share pictures of what we do, and I am sure I will have lots to say about the show. Now, I am going to figure out how to stage a lineup in my house.
