My Favorite Easter Treat Ideas

by - Wednesday, April 09, 2014

I always feel conflicted about Easter holiday fuss, because it is important to me not to cross the line into buying actual gifts or involving cartoon characters or something like that. Easter is too sacred for that kind of capitalist nonsense to creep in. Seriously, does anyone need a Hello Kitty Easter basket? At the same time, this is my favorite holiday, FAVORITE, so having that joyfulness and play seems perfectly fine to me. It's a tricky balance, but I think food is a good place to go a little creative.

I don't understand carrot cake. Why not just have regular cake? But this is clearly too cute to be denied. I think the triangular cakes make it seem a little cooler and more modern.

See? Now who wants carrot flavor when you can have chocolate? Clear winner. You wouldn't think this would be so convincing, but it really does work. The chocolate in the center helps create the illusion, and it is beautiful.

Has anyone ever made ice cream cupcakes before? Because I love that idea. Maybe it is because I haven't been able to eat chocolate for over a month, but I would happily much on one of these, and the effect of them is so simple and beautiful.

Whoever came up with this is a genius. Don't they look like they are wearing skirts? I really want to try this one.

This is one I can totally imagine my Mother in Law doing, because that family loves a good salty and sweet combo. The recipe calls for you to use those candy chip things which are not very good- I wonder if you could use some kind of thick frosting or white chocolate instead. Oh chocolate, 11 more days and we will be reunited.

This looks so amazing!! Whoever did it used pudding cups as the base, but I think you could make dirt instead, and that might be delicious. This is another one on the list that I would actually try, because the chocolate strawberry carrots turn out so adorable.

I just think this is so simple and doable. You could easily pull off this with any cupcake, though I am not sure how much people associate their religious holidays with butts.

Just in case you want to eat a little bit healthier. I love that the bunny seems to be made out of a couple distinct loaves of bread. No one is sculpting that thing on their own, Boudin-style. I also like that they put the extra bread on the sides like that.

What kind of treats does your family make for Easter? Would you ever try one of these over the top treats?
