7 Things I am Grateful for this Week

by - Friday, March 28, 2014

1. Peruvian Food-We celebrated our fancyversary this week, which means Peruvian food! The trick now is that apparently Peruvian food has not made it all the way North to Seattle (which is crazy, because it really deserves its glowing reputation), so we only found one pretty casual place to try in Central Seattle. Lucky for us, these guys know how to do some Papas a la Huacaina. The kind of casual feeling was a big change from Piqueos, so maybe this is our new super chill Seattle life?
2. Curtains- Oh yeah, we put one window's worth of curtains up. People can now watch slightly less Game of Thrones with us. It does not help the fact that I am probably flashing someone once or twice a day, but we are now on the move, and that counts for something!
3. This life-changing (also, ruining?) blog on MSG ingredients in chain brand pizzas- http://foodbabe.com/2014/03/23/if-youve-ever-eaten-pizza-before-this-will-blow-your-mind/- Oy. It is both nice to know these things and horrible to know these things. For now, I am grateful that they didn't find out about the places we get pizza (Oh, Amici's, please hold it together), but this is good information to know for sure.
4. Jimmy Carter's commitment to women- It is not a great time to be a woman when you think globally. There are a lot of issues facing women- from rape, to sexual trafficking, to people trying to take away our rights, to child brides, to illiteracy, to all sorts of other nonsense. To have a former president be speaking so directly to these issues is a good thing. I know people have mixed feelings on "allies" of all kinds, but I will always believe it is a good thing if a person who doesn't suffer from an inequity still stands up and points out how fucked up it is. In my dream world, people would be much more open about their own feminism, because it is really important. I don't know how you can call yourself a good citizen, a Christian, or just a person if you don't look around and see something crazypants is going on.
5. The Shelf- It's back, it's up, and the house seems a whole lot more like ours, which is a great feeling. Eventually I am sure I will feel like that all of the time, but for now, at least we have the world's most random collection of knick knacks to make things a little cozier.

6. Grandma Tyrell- In my perfect world, she and Rickon would get married and rule the Relm. I don't know how I got through the first two seasons without her sassy face. Lady Olena is for serious the best thing that ever happened to this show, even better than Rickon. They know they found a goldmine there, because she is on the welcome screen in the DVD. If they kill her, I swear I quit.

7. Birthday Week Food- Best of all is pea pancakes with basil butter! I know it sounds less than exciting, but I am telling you, this shiz is delicious shalloty basily goodness. I love having the chance to just eat whatever I want for a week, though it can be a lot of pressure. We will see how the weekend goes.
