Inspiration for the Indiana Jones Movie Marathon

by - Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Every year, the Boy and I have a movie marathon to celebrate his birthday. He doesn't love birthday parties, because it creates a lot of pressure on him, but he does like a weekend of vegging out and themed foods. Despite my efforts to talk him into a Dame Trifecta birthday (Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, and Angela Lansbury), The Boy has chosen an Indiana Jones marathon.

I thought this might be tougher than Star Wars, but apparently this has become a very popular theme (thank you lego Indiana Jones?). So, pinterest has all sorts of good ideas:

Decoration Ideas

Clearly Catch my Party does this professionally, because this looks so sharp. I love using some sort of statuette and baskets together. Everything seems to be gold, tan, and green, so this combines the aesthetics well. Also, I love all the creatures and skulls. If I had known further ahead, I could have picked at Halloween sales! Side note, the dirt with worms might be a good choice for a treat.

Man, they know how to set up a table! I like the background too. It all reminds me of a putt putt place that we used to go to when we visited my mom in Virginia. I can't really step to this, but it does inspire me to go big!

First, can I get the Boy to dress up like this? My favorite thing about this is the simple use of cardboard boxes and twine to create some sort of columns. I also saw lots where the children (let's be honest, this is a kid's party for a grown man) dressed up like Indiana Jones and went on scavenger hunts. I may try to do some sort of hunt, but I am not sure on that yet.

I am not sure I love any of this, but poison darts and blow guns might be cool ideas to work with.

I love the idea of making chalices. Plus, everyone could use a pimp cup for their birthday. Gold chalices really fit the theme, and I think they are well within my capability.

I love the idea of using an old-fashioned globe as a centerpiece and maps as a background. Plus, I feel like it is just cool to have a globe in your house. This is probably an idea I will go with.

Food Ideas

The food part was really fun last time, so I am excited to do this again.

Grapes for snake eyes is a nice healthy option that doesn't even need much fussing.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mummy pigs in a blanket. I love these so much. This is happening, because they are just so cute.

I love these cupcakes. Can I find skull cupcake toppers? I also love the chocolate on chocolate on chocolate. Maybe I will do this route instead of doing a full cake? Or could I put skulls on cinnamon rolls?

The cakes deserve a post all their own, because they look AMAZING. Will post later today, with my internal debate about what I am actually capable of doing. I think there are so many good ideas here, so I just need to figure out what will work. What would you do for an Indiana Jones party? What details should we not miss?
