The 3 Things Got Away From Me

Thursday:
1. Brenda and Artistro- These are my tutees in the reading program this year, and I love them both. They are both so smart and enthusiastic to learn, and they both really make me look forward to spending my Thursday mornings with them.
2. Feminist Pinterest- I am so thankful to finally be following enough feministies to see more body positive material than the devil's thinspiration. I HATE thinspiration. I am happy to be using Pinterest as something genuinely inspirational. Also, I have debating within myself a lot about these endless discourses around women, modesty, and why women are so up in arms on both sides of the debate. It is great that I actually have gained some insight from seeing other people's stuff.
3.Garlic- I may have mentioned this before, but I will nibble on raw garlic until I give myself heartburn. I don't know why, but man, it is worth it. Delicious.
Friday:
4. The BART strike being over- If you have to get up at 4:30 in the morning, at the very least, you want to not have to be stuffed into a Muni car.
5. Listening to the Beetlejuice intro while moving through a city. Try it once. It will give the whole thing a whole new whimsical, slightly scary exigence.
6. Sleeping 12 straight hours when I get home- It is the best sleep in the world. It is so nice to come home, lay in bed and watch netflix (Season 5 of Parks and Recreation), and then sleep like I am in a coma.
Saturday:
7.US Airways- they were awesome this time for me, when I needed to get plane tickets quickly. Then, when I messed them up anyway, they were kind, understanding, and didn't charge me money!! It was a miracle!!!
8.Bridge School Benefit- We went to the Neil Young-driven benefit for the Bridge School at Shoreline Ampitheatre yesterday. It was the busiest we have ever seen the place, and for good reason. Not only is the benefit for a really worthwhile cause, but it is a whole night of a ridiculous lineup of bands (Fun., Queens of the Stone Age, Elvis Costello, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Arcade Fire, and more) playing acoustic sets and collaborating with each other. It is a long night ( bring warm clothes!); we were there for 8 and a half hours, and we gave up a little early. It is one of those things I wish we had discovered earlier in our time here, but I am glad we got to experience it once.
9. My Morning Jacket- They were the "surprisingly good" band of the night, though I did wonder how the kids were taking them up on stage. The worst was Jack Johnson. Dude, stop trying sooooo hard to be laid back. It is cold out. Nobody wants to wear flips flops today.
Sunday:

10. Zapotec Deity Shadow Puppets- Perfect for preschoolers, right? I thought that it worked all in all, so I am pretty excited about that. At the very least, it was very Halloween-ish. I think it is odd that children make almost all art projects into cats, but this one was asking for it on a certain level.
11. The Boy- I know I try not to brag on him, but some days, he is just the best. He cleaned the house while I was gone, did most of the laundry himself, and is being so cool about me bouncing off unexpectedly. That one is a gem.
12. Red Eyes- It is 6:40, I have taught five total classes today, and the day is really just getting started. Red Eyes always totally throw off any sense of time I have, so I am sure this week is just going to be weird now. So much for getting back to routine (do you think I ever will?)
