Dissertation Progress- Proposing and Reviewing

by - Sunday, January 13, 2013

This week, I have pretty well hammered out my chapters and research plan. I have an introduction, but it is still janky, and my Review of the Field still looks like a couple sad outlines I am trying to pull together. My cold brain is not on top of it enough to do any heavy lifting, so I just keep writing the parts of the Review of the Field that I already have a strong understanding of over and over again. This is an exceptionally bad plan.

I also met with my adviser this week to pick due dates. I am handing over this proposal on the coming Friday, so I genuinely need to pull it together. Then I have to immediately push toward the first chapter which I will try to hand over a draft of by the end of August. This may seem like a long time, but it is NOT. Usually, people take about a year to write their first draft. What this means is that from here until August I am in bear down mode, which means minimal travel and long work days. It is that time to kiss life balance away again. Of course, this is easy to say now as I am in pajamas, on drugs, and barely cognizant enough to write this blog. Tomorrow, as the fog hopefully has lifted, I am going to curse my life.
