3 Things- Pictures, Protestors, and Write More Good

1. I have sold 2 pictures  already! Ok, they are to my husband and my Grammy, both of whom I would have given them the picture for free. So maybe haven't fulfilled the goal yet, but it is still cool and exciting!

2.Some of the images being released from the protests in New Dehli- These are from the Atlantic.com. The reactions to the gang rape in late December that killed an Indian woman have been incredibly powerful. India is a country where this sort of violence against women has generally gone unspoken, but this extreme violence has reaped a huge reaction. Some of it has been so violent that it is pretty disquieting (the water cannons really don't seem right to me, but neither does burning elegies or threatening to murder people). You wonder if some of this emotional response is productive, though I do think it takes men taking a stand to really talk about sexual violence because men (in almost all cases) perpetrate it. Their perspective is important for changing what is acceptable among their peers and hearing any man take a stand against rape is a good thing. On the other hand, the women in these images are the ones who are most powerful, because they are speaking rationally (not violently) against rape AND holding men responsible for it. I read another article today about how in America, we accept rape as part of the culture (especially in collegiate and athletic settings), so only cases like Sandusky get much attention. Seeing another nation get into such a fierce discussion gives me some hope, though all in all, the situation is heartbreaking.
3. Write More Good- Specifically useful if you are going into journalism, but still a cute fun read for anyone who reads journalism (so, everyone) or who blogs, since I think a blog is a bit like a newspaper for the writer aka the only person who cares.
