Wedding Wednesday- Rehersal Dinner and Original Wedding Party Gifts

by - Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Ok, so I have thus far failed at my Wedding talk embargo. Especially because I have been put on a break from my dissertation proposal, I don't have a ton of other stuff to obsess about. So, I am probably going to do lots of wedding blogging today, and if you are sick of this business, just ignore it!

Now that things are getting closer we are thinking a lot more about both the details and the big picture of the wedding. One of the things we have been talking about a lot more is our rehearsal dinner- who is supposed to come, what you have to do for it, and who we are buying presents for.

We are having our rehearsal dinner at the ballroom at Debence, the music museum my grandparents donate pretty much all of their time too. When they started working there, there was nothing up there. Now the room looks like this:

This is at one of the concerts they have their every month (this one is Bully Hill Brass, actually). I just feel very proud of them and all the things they do for the community and I am excited we can celebrate there, because everyone will get to ride the elevator they fundraised for and such. It is also conveniently located next to the Boy's family's restaurant (and where he was born, for that matter). The Boy's brother has very generously offered to do the food for the dinner, so I am especially excited about that.

So a lot of this is figured out, right? People will be happy because they will have Leonardo's food, which is the best food in the world. They will be entertained by being in this weird building filled with band organs and victrolas. But now I am thinking a lot about what we have to say, who we have to thank, and what we are getting for gifts!

The Boy is pretty set on what he is buying his groomsmen- socks and ties as well as one other thing which will either be one fun thing, or if his brother does that, he has thought of another fun thing.

I, on the other hand, am not sure what I am getting my bridesmaids. Of course I will get them jewelry, because you always give your bridesmaids their jewelry, but that is not that fun for them! Plus, as much sa I have liked the jewelry I got when I was maiding, I am not sure any of it has gotten many repeat uses. It's just too aesthetically specific, not to mention somebody else's taste.

So here are some of the other things I have been thinking about that might actually be a fun gift:

One thing that I think would be awesome is buying them all magic wands (very practical, I know). This is from SticksAndKicks on Etsy. I am pretty sure it is their model of Cedric Diggery's wand. I think they are amazing, but they might be a tough sell for the girls who aren't as Harry Potter crazy.

Nerf Guns- come on, you know this would be fun.

Diaper Bags- Because I have the most pregnant wedding party of all time.

So anyway, these are a few of my ideas. I will let you know what I decide. 15 weeks to go!
