So our photographers (Chris and Rachel at First Blush Photos, who really are awesome) suggest that you allot about 3 hours to pictures for all of those formal pictures. I think that is a little over the top, but I have also been in enough weddings to know that these things always take longer than you think they will. We know that a lot of people put photos after the wedding, we are going to try to frontload them for before the wedding.

I know people have strong opinions about whether the bride and groom see each other before the wedding (my Dad being one of them), but we are going for it. There are oodles of reasons, not least of which is that is undermines the sort of handoff of goods that the "giving away" implies (which also doesn't really jive with the whole fact that we have been living together for three years). Anyway, here are our reason for going this route.

First of all, first look pictures are adorable. I have been collecting them, and these are a few of my favorite. I think that the emotion of that moment is just as great if not more so than the hand off because you don't have that huge audience.

Second, we don't have to be as nervous during the actual wedding. I am happy about this part, because being nervous about being the center of attention is enough!

Third, we save some time. I like that we can get bridal party and family pictures out of the way before hand, because then when we do take those few pictures after the wedding, we will actually get to be just the two of us. Plus, we still get to see some of our cocktail hour and don't have to worry about pictures the whole night!

Fourth, we can meet up at the same place we had our first date and at least 3 of our anniversary celebrations.  Though we haven't worked out the logistics perfectly, I am excited that we could take our pictures out in a beautiful space like Riverfront Park, where almost exactly 9 years before we had sat on the swings and talked on our first date as boyfriend and girlfriend. It appeals to my sentimental mentality.

Fifth,  and most importantly, we don't have to put a show on for everyone. Because we aren't super out there like that, I think having this little intimate moment will really suit us. We don't have to be nervous all day, and I am excited about that.

Seriously, how cute is this guy? One of the best first look pictures ever.

So after the first look, I think we can take the majority of our wedding party and couple-y pictures. My plan is to be at the church only a half hour after everyone else leaves, because I want to see the cocktail hour! I think it is going to be one of the coolest/ most fun parts of the wedding. So, I am hoping we can have a clear vision of what we want, and push it through as quickly as possible. Here are a couple of those kinds of pictures that I really love.

A couple of wedding party ones. This is one reason I wish our party wasn't so big, because it is hard to get something this warm with such a huge line-up, but we need to bring some seating so we can have some levels. And maybe we can split them up into groups.

These are my absolute favorite pictures of brides and grooms. Definitely need to remember to bring some blankets so we can get pictures laying in the grass (I think it would help us to calm down too).

Love the swing pictures too, since that is where we will be for our pictures. I am really excited to see what the photographers come up with, and I hope we have strategized this whole thing well!

18 weeks (or 129 days) to go! It just feels like we are rushing along now!
