Dissertation Progress- We have about half a draft

by - Friday, March 09, 2012

I have been slowly chipping away at the proposal, and now it is about 12 pages long (in the end it should be between 12 and 15, but it has a LOT of editing in its immediate future). I wish things were going more quickly, but we are not doing anything fun this weekend, so hopefully by the end of it I will have something that isn't too horrible and embarrassing (the absolute, must turn in date is a week from today, so it is time to really get moving).

I had a really rough day on Wednesday, just frustrated with my slow progress and worried I hadn't come up with anything good. On Thursday, I went to see a writing tutor, and I feel so much better. Since I had that job once, I know the idea is to have me leave feeling empowered and excited to keep moving, and this guy definitely did his job. It is a powerful thing though to tell the first person a more detailed account of what I am thinking and have them actually be super excited and interested. I know it still has a way to go, but I am onto something that is at least interesting to non-art historians, so this has to count for something big.

Alright, tomorrow is going to be a huge day of writing (I hope!) but now there is Zumba to be done.
