Dissertation Progress- Writing as a Method of Thinking?

by - Saturday, February 18, 2012

So, as you may be able to guess, American Moon took the majority of my intellectual energy this week, so I am not all that much further on the dissertation than I was, but I did get a couple of the old grad's and that is a huge relief.

In some ways it makes it seem much more simple- they are only between 10 and 15 pages and the bibliography is about 2 pages. I am thinking that maybe this weekend (meaning tomorrow, since I have now spent most of the day watching Harry Potter and talking to interviewees) I will just start writing something as if I know exactly what I am doing, and in writing that I am hoping that I will be able to more clearly delineate my chapters, which is currently my biggest worry.

I am especially confused about how to break up the works and how much I need to be talking about per chapter. It seems like so much space to fill, but I noticed that in the other proposals the vision for each chapter was clear, and I haven't gotten to the point where the whole doesn't feel muddled. That is my worry for now, but I still am in a pleasant denial where I am sure I will figure it out. This is the week where reality sets in, so I should just be more properly panicked by next week (though a week from today we are having a trip to Disneyland, so hopefully that won't be so frazzley!).
