Wedding Wednesday (On Thursday)- Food and Tradition

This week the big thing on the table has been the vision for the catering. To the boy, food is pretty much the most important part of any event ever. It apparently is an Italian thing, so about half of our budget is being split between rentals, booze, and the food. Half, which kind of blows my mind. So, if it is going to be a big part, we have to figure out how to make it awesome.  To me, this starts with the end. And that means milkshakes or at least something sweet!

It's hard to resist the temptation of just bringing in a lot of junk foody things, but if you actually eat junk the whole time, then people will feel gross and self-loathing instead of happy. So it becomes a question of how to make food fun without also A) trying too hard and B) making everyone gain 10 lbs.

ok, two years later, i can't find where I got this one. If you know, feel free to share and I will cite it properly.
I just thought this place setting was pretty.

The only thing I feel really strongly about is that we have it family-style. I think it creates a great sense of intimacy and really forces people to get to know each other from the very beginning. On the other hand, you have to plan the table decor so there is plenty of room for all of the platters. I also just endorse sharing. And it is cheaper than having all of the food served individually and fancier than a buffet? Maybe?

Really, I have very few opinions on food. Something with fresh basil because it is the best smell in the whole world.

And I have even fewer opinions on booze, because I don't drink. But I would drink a groomarita, because it has such a cute name!

And this is one of my favorite tables so far- yay for big long banquet tables! So cute!! Maybe I will think of more food things later, or maybe I will just let Nick pick. I just want it to be fine and not memorably bad.
