Wedding Wednesday- Nerdspiration

by - Wednesday, July 06, 2011

This week rather than trying to work out a specific problem we are having, I figured I would just focus on a specific inspiration- nerdiness! This inspiration picture is of my Grammy and Grampa before they were married. I am not saying they are super nerdy (trust me, we'll get there) but I think as with most things with my grandparents, their nerdiness shines through. Every time my grandpa smiles or laughs at whatever kooky thing Grammy says, you can tell he is such a goober who loves her dorkiness too. That's inspiring.  So the question becomes, how much can your wedding celebrate your inner (art, engineery, game, computer, whatever) nerd before you have a wedding like this:

Now, I don't want it to seem like I am knocking this wedding. I personally think it would be a blast to go to a wedding dressed like Admiral Ackbar (as long as it's not a trap). And maybe that's the beauty of a nerd wedding. It just is more fun. So the question becomes, just how much dorkiness can you sneak in?

Firstly, it must be said, nerdiness can be damn romantic. I am pretty sure Einstein was a slut in his freetime, but this quote is still super sweet:
Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.
-Albert Einstein

See? That's cute right? Well, one of the ways some fun stuff gets worked in are in groom's cakes.

I am not sure what Wall-E has to do with  Nintendo, but I will agree they are both pretty cool. I think Wall-E related things would be really sweet. It's another one of these things which shouldn't be as romantic as it is (though I think it's fair to say Pixar does a nice job with romantic moments).

Admit it, this makes you smile.  Just genius. Nothing says matrimony like ninja turtles.

This one I think is the main event cake, and it is freaking gorgeous. That is real commitment to Mario. And I like that it isn't a groom's cake, because I see no reason why the groom should have all the fun stuff, and the bride should be well-behaved.

Case and point. These girls are awesome (and I love the teal dress red shoe combo). The capes are ridiculous, but the glasses and the absolute commitment to their superhero alter egos pushes this into the amazing. Everyone should have this much fun at their wedding.

Lego cake toppers? Adorable. We are definitely working legos in somehow, and this is a pretty cool way. I wonder if there is a way to leave them at tables without it feeling like a child's birthday party. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe the perfect wedding is really just a kid's party for grown-ups.

Library engagement pictures? Just adorable.

Ok, this is a dream, can we just have board games at our wedding? I guess that discourages people from dancing. Maybe have a Catan after party?
So this is just the tip of the nerdy iceberg, but I love love love them all. I have gotten the advice more than once that the best weddings are ones that are just so that couple. Like you could guess it was them even without knowing. Yay nerdiness?
