5 Things I Love this Week

by - Tuesday, April 05, 2011

1. Surprises! On my birthday, I was running around like a crazy person, trying to do errands and get ready for section. All of the sudden, there was my mom. It seriously took me a while to figure out whether it was her. We had a pretty low key weekend, but it couldn't have been a better weekend. Living here, even with Nick, I feel lonely being so far from all the people who care about me. Having her nearby, especially after all the excitement lately, was the perfect way to wrap up all the happy going around.
2. People I know- I really hate meeting new people/ making small talk/ have any idea what to say to someone I feel uncomfortable around. I had to go to a party on Saturday where I know I made a fool of myself trying to schmooze. It just made me thankful that at least now I know people here.
3. Caprese sandwiches- They are like tomato sandwiches, but with bread. I am not sure it doesn't get better than that.
4. Thursday Nights- So I have such a busy schedule this quarter, because film classes and screening and sections leaves me plenty busy. But Thursday nights I can finally take a moment to breathe, blog, and lay around on my couch. Life is good.
5. Birthdays- I love birthdays, and this one was about as wonderful as it gets. I think life is filled with so many negative things that we can do nothing about, but we can treat the blessings in life as if they matter. If we can, like they matter as much as the negative things. The best we can hope for is some sense of balance between the inevitable sadness and joy of living, so I want to treat the moments I can with as much enthusiasm and excitement as possible. Also, I love cake. And surprise visits. So, this was a supremely happy week. I'm glad things are getting back to normal, because I need to not get kicked out of grad school, but I couldn't have asked for a better birthday week (mostly, thanks to the boy).
