5 Things I Love This Week

by - Tuesday, February 01, 2011

1. Roadside America- Nick's cousin Christopher is going on a road trip this summer and he was looking for advice on where to go. This was the first thing we looked at to give him advice, and it really made me wish we had another road trip in our future! They have the most random and hilarious stops which we have really loved on our trips. Anything that recommends giant bull balls or the spam museum is alright with me. I think I could run a website like that if this whole academia thing doesn't pan out.

2. Cost plus World Market- these stores started in Berkeley, and they have the best selection of Milka Chocolate I have seen outside of Europe. We also bought a bookshelf there, but since we haven't put it together yet, I can't really comment on its effectiveness or beauty. It also helped us put together our elaborate Valentine's Day plans.

3. That Robotech is on instant stream for Netflix- I have an awesome lazy weekend ahead of me.

4. That I am not an architect. It seems like such a fun idea, until you have to go to an architectural planning meeting. Suddenly, you feel like architecture is not so much arty but a specific kind of engineering where you have to balance about 5o million needs. Ick. I am very glad I did not go that route.

5. Macaroni and Cheese with Cauliflower and Broccoli. It's so delicious- I could eat this every day if I wouldn't gain weight (though, to be honest, that's the case for a lot of things!). This week is old classics themed, so it is really fun to eat some foods we like but just haven't made for a while.

One thing I really don't love- Debbie Wasserman Schultz's ridiculous "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion" Bill, which both makes it much more difficult to use insurance to pay for an abortion and (perhaps more disturbingly) tries to narrow the definition of rape so fewer women can claim i as their reason for an abortion. This effort is obviously ridiculous, and I hope it will be shot down quickly, but it is this kind of behavior from the Republican party that really makes me feel spiteful rather than annoyed. People, stop voting for the women who try to take away the rights of other women. It's disgusting.
